Brummie renaissance?

The short silence was due to a much needed holiday in West Cork. Back in Birmingham now.

It feels exciting in town as the new library has opened. I took a walk around it with John Bradburn and we were very impressed. Here’s a little look:

It all adds to a sense that Birmingham is actually getting quite a bit of recognition instead of the usual slagging that outsiders usually give it. Alongside the library development, my friend Gareth Hay has been involved in setting up a local hackerspace called fizzPOP, and I’ve already mentioned the Birmingham Film Studios. Even the Wellington Pub got a roof bar and it is making the city feel on a bit of a buzz right now, which is perfect for filmmaking.

Let’s hope we can be part of that buzz.
